| The LWV program is built on a strong team oriented model, something that is often missing from amateur-level competitive cycling today. More experienced riders share their knowledge with less experienced team members. In addition to racing, members are encouraged to be active in the club and assist in the club's operations and projects.
Towards the development of individual members, LWV provides the following benefits:
- Informal group training rides and the opportunity to find training partners.
- Coaching in physical training, cycling skills, and racing tactics and strategy.
- Financial support in the form of equipment discounts from sponsors and reimbursement for selected race fees.
LWV contributes to the sport by promoting three races each year. LWV members also participate in community service activities such as the Adopt-A-Road litter control program.
Lake Washington Velo made a successful debut on the 2001 national professional / amateur racing circuit with its elite amateur formation, the Hagens Berman Cycling Team. The Team has proved to be the top amateur team in the pro/am events on the USA Cycling National Race Calendar for the past five seasons. Our Riders utilized an aggressive racing style which kept them in the front of the pack, attracting the attention of the media, race announcers, and spectators while gaining the respect of professional riders and team managers. Since 2001 eleven of our riders have graduated to professional teams, we have won national caliber events against top professional riders and have the 2005 Elite National Road Race Champion, Carl Decker.

The 2012 Hagens Berman Cycling Team plans to include extensive national race calendar events, a roster of talented up-and-coming racers and a full rider support system. This already-successful program remains an excellent marketing tool for title, equipment and product sponsors in 2012. Sponsorship is essential for the success of our rider support system. |
